Designing an Equitable Special Education Finance System in Michigan: Stakeholder Working Session

Join us for a collaborative session hosted on behalf of the MI Blueprint project. This meeting is part of a statewide effort to reimagine Michigan’s special education finance system as equitable, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of students with disabilities.

We’d prefer to have you attend in person, but you are welcome to participate virtually if that works best for you. A Zoom link will be provided to all registered virtual attendees.

We’ll start things off with an optional 30-minute premeeting networking session. In-person participants can join us at 1:30 p.m. to connect with fellow participants before the meeting.

During the meeting, we will:

  • Reflect on problem statements outlining Michigan’s current model
  • Explore a draft Michigan funding model
  • Discuss key considerations for implementation of a Michigan model

This session is designed to ensure that every voice is heard. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute ideas, engage with others’ perspectives, and help shape an implementation plan for a finance system that better supports students with disabilities.

Your input will help lay the groundwork for an implementation framework that centers equity and ensures resources are allocated where they’re needed most.

What Is the Michigan Blueprint Project?

The MI Special Education Finance Reform Blueprint aims to ensure that Michigan adequately and equitably funds public education. Public Sector Consultants and the Autism Alliance of Michigan are engaging stakeholders across the state to develop an implementation framework that outlines an equity-driven model to provide special education services and support for students with disabilities.

This project will develop a comprehensive special education finance reform package that is unconstrained by existing structures and more closely aligned with student needs.
