As part of planning for a reliable, affordable and clean energy future, we have been evaluating the economic, community and financial impacts of our 13 hydroelectric sites throughout Michigan.
Our hydros are licensed through the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and 11 of these will expire in a little over a decade. While that seems far away, our required planning process means it's just around the corner.
Last year, more than 1,700 community members, organizations and municipal leaders participated in community discussions that included learning about how these facilities are operated and the process and requirements to relicense.
We are hosting additional community sessions through November and a webinar November 16. Visit ConsumersEnergy.com/HydroFuture for full event details or view recordings of past meetings. If you are unable to attend a community session, register for a webinar below.
